Knowledge Translation Working Group

The Knowledge Translation Working Group (KT WG) of the Canadian Task Force oversees the development of patient- and clinician-facing tools for each clinical practice guideline. This working group is chaired by a member of the Canadian Task Force or by a qualified person designated by the chair. It is composed of members of the Canadian Task Force, GHGD representatives, and members of the Knowledge Translation Program at the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute of St. Michael's Hospital.

The KT WG's main responsibilities are to:

Work with stakeholders to determine the best way to publicize and implement guidelines and related tools within budget and feasibility constraints;
Develop tailored messages and tools for clinicians and patients consistent with guideline recommendations, using the most up-to-date "best practices";
Use an iterative process of heuristic testing and usability testing to refine tools for the target audience;
Review and incorporate emerging best practices for knowledge translation over time;
Participate in guideline implementation and evaluation projects when opportunities arise, in order to increase the integration of guidelines into primary care practice.

KT WG members also participate in methods working groups and in setting priority topics in order to bring the knowledge-translation perspective. These suggestions ensure that knowledge translation is considered in all aspects of guideline development.
