Summary of recommendations for clinicians and policy-makers
These guidelines apply to any man who has not previously been diagnosed with prostate cancer. This includes men with lower urinary tract symptoms (nocturia, urgency, frequency, low urinary flow) or benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
Recommendations
For men younger than 55 years, we recommend not screening for prostate cancer with the prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test.
(Strong recommendation; low quality evidence)
For men aged 55-69 years, we recommend not screening for prostate cancer with the PSA test.
(Weak recommendation; moderate quality evidence)
For men aged 70 years and older, we recommend not screening for prostate cancer with the PSA test.
(Strong recommendation; low quality evidence)
